Red Enamel Sugared Earrings

Combining drawing, painting, texture and pattern, these enamel earrings feature hand-drawn designs and multilayered finishes that highlight the saturated color and luminosity of glass. Created using the centuries-old technique of enameling on metal and inspired by historical enamel methods, they reflect an approach that is both artistically expressive and technically innovative. Each earring is sculpturally formed from steel to play with light and shadow, then coated with many thin layers of glass and pigment. The layers are fused in a kiln at 1,500 degrees, creating a rich, luminous surface. Aquamarine gemstone beads are attached with fused silver pins as a final embellishment.
