Jarabe Tapatio

Jarabe Tapatío: Inspired by the swirling energy of Mexico’s national folk dance, Jarabe Tapatío captures movement and rhythm in both color and form. The vessel’s elliptical shape, a result of intentional warping during the final firing owing to its notched underside, lends a dynamic quality, as if the piece itself is mid-motion, twirling to the beat of a vibrant melody. Its surface is alive with a festival of geometric patterns, interwoven in bright blues, fiery oranges, and verdant greens, evoking the lively spirit of traditional dance costumes.

The satin finish, both inside and out, enhances the depth of its intricate surface treatment, softening the interplay of colors while preserving their vivid intensity. A warm terracotta band encircles the piece, grounding the composition and adding to the sense of festive harmony. The vessel’s unique form, shaped by precisely placed notches on the base, ensures that no two perspectives of this piece are ever quite the same—an ever-shifting visual delight.

The work is fired first to approximately 1800 degrees F, after which any remaining fine alterations are made, and the surface treatment is applied by hand by the artist. A second firing to about 2100 degrees F completes the process, ensuring its durability and artistic integrity.

This piece bears the JeanElton signature on its underside and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), both of which display its unique serial number.
