Kagayaki Brooch

A softly curved brooch animated by layered etching reveals a surface that feels almost tidal—with the texture marks flowing, colliding, and dissolving into one another. At it's center, a bright blue-green chrysocolla rests beside an opening, a quiet pause within the motion. Fragments of 24k gold foil radiate around the vacancy, bonded to the steel using the ancient keum-boo technique. The warmth of gold and the cool depth of the stone heighten the sense of contrast: presence and absence, color and shadow, stillness held inside movement. Safety clasp closure.
