Horsehair Raku Vessel with Red Blush

This wheel-thrown ceramic vessel showcases the rich, earthy effects of the raku and horsehair firing techniques. The surface is not glazed; rather, the piece is covered in several layers of white terra sigillata and hand polished to a smooth finish. The artist applies places real horsehair on the surface, which leave fascinating marks when the piece is fired which is accented with a blue blush surrounding the darker areas. Signed on bottom.
