The Story

Large handblown glass sculptural "Botanical Series" original experimental prototype. This rare piece from the artist's personal collection is from over three decades ago, signed 1993 on bottom of the base (predating current signature location on the side of base). Features exaggerated sculptural 'knops'* in the vessel form, and a extravagant array of all hot-sculpted flora sprouting from the vessel. 100% hot-worked on blowpipe with no post-fabrication. Inspired by a Bird of Paradise flower.

Originally conceived as a sculptural bud vase, the later addition of a decorative stopper adds flair to the unique design. Solid glass base adds stability and balance to this unique, eye-catching offering that will never be replicated. One of two surviving examples in the artists collection from this once extensively exhibited series that was shown at private galleries, Smithsonian Craft Show, ACC Craft shows, and others. Meticulous detail and inspired design are the basis of this archival series by the artist.

*A component, usually bulbous, of the stem of a drinking glass, hollow or solid, used either singly or in groups, and placed contiguously or with intermediate spacing; also the finial at the center of a lid
  • One-of-a-kind piece
  • Signed by the artist
  • Minor assembly required: Locate the base vessel wherever prefered, and then gently insert the top.
  • Materials: Glass
