Clear Millefiori Foglio

This blown glass vessel from Patchen's "Foglio" series is created with the difficult murrini technique. The artist first creates patterned glass rods, when cooled cuts them into individual 'tiles,'' composes them into a mosaic, fuses them together, then blows them into the final shape. This unusual and elegant Foglio has patterns made from combining clear glass and crystal. Layering these two different types of glass into millefiori that look like stars or gears defines the optical pattern in this work. The finished piece is double-encased in clear glass for great depth and stability.
