Cerulean Sphere

This spectacular blown glass sculpture from the artist’s Sphere series is created using the challenging murrini technique. Patchen first creates hundreds of patterned glass tiles and composes them into a mosaic, then fuses them together and begins the blowing process. The piece is blown entirely freehand without the use of molds, evidencing Patchen's mastery of these techniques.

Crisp details and vibrant colors are hallmarks of the artist’s work. This one-of-a-kind sphere incorporates bundles of three-dimensional threads of blue and purple glass inside a ring of purple glass against a backdrop of cerulean. This breathtaking sculpture has great presence and is double-encased in clear glass for depth, optics, and stability.

All of Patchen's pieces have flat satin-finished bases. While Museum Wax is recommended for added security, for ultimate stability, this piece may be purchased with a permanently bonded clear glass base. Optional base is 5" x 5".
