The Story
common name in Chad, where Slack served in the Peace Corps—it embodies both strength and grace. Each sculpture is one of a kind, hand built from stoneware clay. After roughing out the form on a supporting armature, Slack carefully cuts, hollows, and reassembles the sections before mounting the figure on its base. Following the bisque firing, he sprays on eight coats of base glaze and hand-brushes raw metallic oxides to create a richly dimensional surface. The piece is angled within the kiln to guide the flowing glaze, yielding a finish that feels alive with motion. Intended for indoor display. Signed on front of base.
